Hi everyone – nice to see you again after what feels like forever! If you’re new to hanging around with me, my name is Michelle and while a healthcare consultant during the week, I am a fearless DIY Weekend Warrior on my off time. Each spring and fall I like to participate in a little big challenge called the One Room Challenge (ORC). The ORC Fall 2022 round will be my fifth round – mostly because I never finished the ORC Fall 2021 round. I’m planning quite a bit, but my first project will be my daughter’s Fairy Tale Bedroom.
If you have some extra time, check out the seasons’ past:
Classic Fairy Tale Bedroom
After what seems like 84 years, I’m finally getting back into my home renovations! I just wrapped up the dining room (it only took me 11 months), and I am thrilled to get started on the next project – Emily’s fairy tale themed bedroom.
If you’ve been with me throughout the past few years, you might have seen little Emily joining me on some of my earlier projects. As she got a little older, though, she opted to shy away from the camera. This year, though, she’s excited to help me with her room transformation yet again! I can’t wait to teach her some of the skills I’ve learned throughout the past few years. She already has impeccable taste – as seen by her choice of bedroom inspiration!
The Before
Her room needs some help from the ground up. This house was an assisted living facility just before we bought it back in June of 2021, so who knows what lies underneath those nasty carpets? All I know is that they are getting TORN. UP.
The Plan
Emily chose this photo out of all of the potential fairy-tale bedrooms out there. Like I said – impeccable taste! To get us there, though, we need a little roadmap.
I love to follow a loose list as I go through these One Room Challenges – that way, you can keep up with how hectic it can get (usually in week 4). But, roughly, here is what I have in store:
Order light fixture- Order or get sponsored flooring
- Order or get sponsored wallpaper
- Rip up flooring
- Install New Flooring
- Wallpaper walls
- Install new baseboards/crown
- Install new light fixture
- Install accent trim (maybe)
- Fun closet surprise (maybe)
- Thrift dresser on Facebook Marketplace
- Upcycle said dresser from Facebook Marketplace
- DIY Halo Canopy
- Decorate
- Stage
- Photos
Guess what?? The light fixture has already been purchased and arrived in like a week – totally unlike last year, when it took months for that chandelier to come through and ruined all of my plans.
So that’s plan one for this season of the One Room Challenge. Stay tuned, because I have more than one plan in mind!

This is going to be soooo good! I love that your daughter is partaking in the ORC too. I can’t wait to follow along on the adventure!
Thanks Shandelle!! I am so happy she has decided to join me too – it used to be such a fun bonding thing for us when she was 3. How is it she’s about to turn 7?? Haha
OMG dreaaaam. that wallpaper is stunning! following!
Thank you! I loooove that wallpaper too, but I think the one she ended up going with is equally as fabulous – hopefully I can share that with you guys next week!
