Hi there! My name is Michelle and while a healthcare consultant by day, I am a fearless DIY-er and real estate investor by…. night? Honestly, anytime I have some free time. Each spring and fall I like to participate in a little big challenge called the One Room Challenge (ORC). The ORC Fall 2020 round will be my fourth (and by far most interesting) round – check out the seasons’ past:
This round, we will be tackling the SAME room we did in the spring. The drama that surrounded that final reveal was documented over on my IG page, but the quick and dirty of it is this: I chose the wrong lumber for my murphy bed and it broke. Then I discovered I was expecting twins by way of an ER visit and triplet miscarriage. So, I hope you will join me for the next six weeks. This pregnant, exhausted mama needs all the encouragement she can get to pull off a TWIN NURSERY.
Just like the start of every room, I have a loose idea in my head but really have no concrete plans, mood boards or anything like that. We found out a few weeks ago the twins are both boys, so that at least helps point me in a more specific direction. While this round’s before pictures are actually really beautiful… *sigh*… we only have three bedrooms and two of them are taken up permanently. So, my home office has to go.
ORC Fall 2020 – Before Pictures
The Rough Idea
There are so many talented designers out there that make beautiful mood boards for their One Room Challenge room transformations. I, my friends, am not one of those people. So instead, I give you my Pinterest Board which I am stocking regularly with ideas for the twin nursery.
Mostly, I have this figured out – I would like it to be a woodland mountain theme, but not too “kid-like” – something that I find calming to be in as well. (Side note – infants are very stressful to me… like, I need medication for it kind of stressful). So, I want an environment I find calming.
With that being said, the ORC Fall 2020 round will look slightly different for those of you who have tagged along for my previous three rounds. I will not be building much of anything, which has kind of been my thing. I will assemble a crib or two, though! Here is my rough plan:
The Plan (In No Particular Order)
- Destroy the broken murphy bed
- Clean and clear the room and closet out
- Install additional baseboards where the bed used to be
- Stencil the credenza to create a changing station
- Assemble one to two cribs
- Purchase a glider for the corner
- Determine what to do for the wall space between the two built in shelving units – ideas so far are wallpaper, large print, multiple small prints or large, wooden wall art
- Dig out my baby stuff from my attic and closets
- Add baskets to the shelving units for diapers, clothes, etc.
- Figure out some sort of decor for the rest of the room
What’s Done?
- I built some sweet built in bookshelves this spring
- I have rugs for the room (I loved my cowhide and was NOT getting rid of it)
- I have a credenza already and will make that the changing table
- I’ve already repainted the room courtesy of the spring ORC
- I’ve also already added crown moulding
- The floors have also already been re-done
See, we are on a roll here. This week, I suppose I will tackle clearing that room out. Let’s have some fun!
This is going to be so amazing! I LOVE the wooded mountain theme. I find the mountains to be so soothing. Those boys sure are lucky!
Me too – I love the mountains, so I know I needed a soothing environment for myself as well (I mean I’ll be in there all the time for a while!) Thank you!
