We are a week (ok four days) away from the 2020 Spring One Room Challenge reveal. I am continuously pushing my blog posts later and later… it is ridiculous. For those of you who haven’t been following along, I am taking on our guest room and bringing it to its full potential by hiding it inside of a home office. Stay tuned to see if I can make the reveal deadline on June 25th (with my chronic late posting, you probably could guess the answer).

Down to the Wire
Oh you thought you were going to see a semi-finished guest room today? Well, sorry to disappoint! I am still standing strong in my WE ARE NOT OK boat.
I started out this week back in Austin with my friend Deborah Main from The Pillow Goddess working hard to wrap up the kitchen back splash for her own One Room Challenge. That was such a satisfying project for me! I started this page to encourage people (of all skill levels) to find their own DIY power, and that is exactly what she did! While tiling her back splash, I also taught her how to tile. She got some true hands-on experience with tiling and did a great job for her first time! I know that she will love her kitchen even more knowing she helped to create that beautiful back splash! I won’t show it here to respect her big reveal surprise, but I am dying to!
This week I had such great plans, but things kept coming up and delaying those well laid plans. Last week, I talked about what I had hoped to complete in week 7. Things such as:
Painting the Entire Shelving Unit
Here’s where we stand with that. I did, however, finish all of the finishing. Edging is on, holes are filled in, etc. I also finally finished attaching the top shelf. Yes, the shelf I “attached” before this thing even started.
Finish the Crown Moulding
Yes. About that. That hasn’t happened yet.
Exchange Ceiling Fan
Luckily my husband forced himself to help me out with the guest room for this little project. Electricity just isn’t my thing!
Build a Waterfall Live Edge Desk
This is one project I made a little headway with this week. I am currently waiting for my epoxy to come in so I can keep going with it, but I am really happy with the results so far.
Above you can see I made a sort of “jig” to help guide my circular saw. I set my circular saw at a 45 degree angle and ran it along the jig – starting out shallow and going slightly deeper with each cut. Thanks to Josh’s help over on Instagram!
Once you have your first 45 degree cut, you need to perform a reverse cut on the other piece so that you will have two edges that make a perfect mitered meet-up so it appears that the grain of the wood is falling off the desk like a waterfall. Hence the name, waterfall desk!
Refinish the Credenza
The one project I actually finished this week! Yes!
I got this on Facebook Marketplace for $100 – it’s heavy duty steel and was in rough shape. Buuut with a little Rust-Oleum, you can make anything new again.
I’m really happy with how it’s turned out and can’t wait to get it into the actual guest room instead of on my driveway.
Ornamental Moulding and Millwork
I know I promised a run-down of this awesome company, but it will have to wait another week at least. I know how stunning their millwork will be once it is actually completed, and these beautiful baseboards and crown deserve their own stand alone post when I’m not running around like crazy trying to finish things up!
What’s Left
Ha! Let’s see if anyone could wrap this up in a week.
Replace the floorsBuild the Murphy bedFinish painting the Murphy bedBuild the built-in cabinets- Paint the cabinets <- week 4 (guess I’m running behind, what’s new?)
Decide on what color to paint the wallsPaint the walls <- week 5Replace the baseboards <- week 5- Add crown moulding <- week 5
Stalk FB Marketplace for cowhide rugs, thrifted finds, etc. <- constantSell the existing dresserReplace the dresser with something low and long- Find a painting for above the bed
