Welcome back! We are heading full speed ahead into the second week of the One Room Challenge. In case you missed last week’s plans, they are below:

Week 1- Country French Bedroom

I feel so, incredibly behind but also feel like I have been so very busy. For the second week in the spring I was already halfway through my cabin bed build!

Why do I feel so behind? Partially because a little more than half of this first week was spent enjoying my family up in Taos, New Mexico – a favorite getaway for us. We loved seeing all of the beautiful fall colors.

Like most things in my life, I didn’t quite think through the timing of it! It was totally worth it, though – the only way I’m getting fall colors where I live in South Texas is when our grass or trees die from lack of water!

How about the rest of the week?

The rest of the week has been HECTIC to say the least. I started scouring Facebook Marketplace, Letgo and Offerup while we were on the road for bedroom furniture to replace my existing set. I browsed so much my eyes started to hurt and my daughter was constantly asking why she couldn’t watch Peppa Pig.

Thanks to your help on Instagram Stories, I was able to side-step my impulsiveness and not buy every little thing. It was so hard to pass on stuff that came close but did not quite fit the vision I had. I wanted to incorporate some sophisticated curves into my new set alongside just a little bit of decorative carving – but not too much. I wanted it to look refined, not kitschy. With all of your help passing over the wrong choices, I found the perfect set and picked it up just yesterday!

The couple we picked them up from were the best! We stayed there chatting with them about everything under the sun for probably two hours. I plan to send them the final reveal of the room so they can see how their furniture turned out. I will start to refinish these in the coming weeks. I don’t know which week… I am still trying to find my timeline here!

There are so many cool things out there though – let me share another find that I have big plans for:

This antique chair was only $30 and was in pretty solid shape! At least until I got hold of it.

What is even going on in this picture? I think we are looking at the back of the chair, with the seat bottom towards the left of the picture. I took all of the fabric off and removed the stuffing over the course of two nights. I found several interesting things – and enough change to bring the price down to $29.84.

Finally, we made a pretty decent lumber trip – extremely necessary if you are going to be building several things in your bedroom.

As a refresher – I am planning to build a beautiful storage platform bed, utilizing some of the scrap wood pieces I have hiding in my garage. I am also planning to build my own headboard (plans are still TBD on that one) as well as replace our pocket door with a beautiful, modern twist on a sliding barn door.

So, that about wraps up week two. Last challenge I felt really put together – I had a timeline – knew what I was going to tackle and when – and this time I am totally the opposite! I feel like things are just falling into place whenever their time to fall into place is. Meanwhile, I am just along for the ride!
