It is the final countdown for the One Room Challenge. The end of this challenge is shaping up to look a lot like the beginning, in all honesty! Slightly manic, pressed for time and full of last minute decisions.

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5

I feel that by now, I should know that’s how I roll with these things. But you know what is really exciting? Seeing the ideas that you thought up in your head somehow work out beautifully! This week was full of total transformations.

Our moment from last week resolved beautifully and I’ve found more support between the two of us than in the weeks prior – I’m keeping myself in check y’all! What did I say I was going to do from last week?

  • – Minimal expenses moving forward

I found $10 end tables you guys! I also got the OK to purchase an inexpensive headboard. Originally I was going to build my headboard. However, the other projects really ate into my timeline, so I have a plan for this one. Either I will love it and keep it until I’m ready to re-do our bedroom again, or I will feel “meh” about it, build a sweet bed to go along with it and sell it as a big piece.

But seriously. Did you see these $10 end tables I found on Facebook Marketplace?

They now look like this:

The paint I used for this transformation was Graham and Brown’s Ava White in the Resistance Matt Emulsion finish. It was amazing. I will need to go further into detail about my furniture transformations, but this finish is scrub-resistant! It maintains the matte finish even after you wash it down – perfect for furniture that has little ones and dogs milling around it all day long.

My husband, who really doesn’t care for the “old” look – said they look great. He said he likes them!! How exciting is that? I’ve converted him.

  • Re-balancing my time – I have really focused on doing what I call a block schedule. I will put away EVERYTHING unrelated to my income producing work so I don’t get distracted. Then, when I have switched gears for the day, I feel much less scattered. Surprisingly, I was able to get a lot more accomplished than I expected!
  • – Less social in the evenings – other than post days, which my husband has agreed to – I have backed off of social media platforms from 5-9 and sometimes even for the entire evening and morning! So proud.
  • – Kitchens… they have been kept clean more or less!

Everyone seems to be happy and enjoying the fact that our transformation is coming together. It will still be a manic dash to the finish line, but it’s going to be amazing!

Other fun wins this week include finishing up that spectacular chair:

Before…
After!

Painting all of my Facebook finds:

In this picture my daughter was bravely standing near me. I had worked all day and needed a shower! She let me know it too…

Finishing the initial build of the modern barn door:

I would never have been able to accomplish all of this without some help from my dad this week. With my husband undergoing a major surgery over the weekend and my little girl’s birthday party coming up, my to-do list was growing while my time was dwindling.

Despite so much falling into place, there is still much to be done. I have to order my bedding. That is something I have struggled to visualize – I can almost see it, but not quite. I have been running my ideas past my friend over at The Pillow Goddess and her feedback has helped so, so much!

I have to hang up my decor. I did end up hanging up some new curtain rods, but those were small potatoes compared to the rest of the hanging items.

I have to mount my headboard, which actually has to come in.

I will need to hang the door. The mounting hardware seems confusing to me for some reason, but I’m sure I will figure it out.

I need a final bit of fabric to finish my window treatment idea.

Somehow I have to stage everything. This will probably mean I will be digging through a lot of old stuff to see if anything will work in that room. Remember the vintage trunk covered in spiders I found in the spring?

Finally, I will need to take pictures with nice lighting.

Oh, speaking of lighting – I need lamps.

There you have it… a scattered, manic dash to the finish line. It is always fun to see how I will pull things together in the end. At the end of the day, I’m already happy with our bedroom. It is so relaxing – it smells like beautiful fresh wood and amazing Target candles. It is bright, inviting and cozier than it has ever been and I’m not even done yet. That’s a great sign!
